The Brief
Remilk makes animal-free dairy proteins by precision fermentation. Moving from bench-scale R&D to a pilot plant required bioprocess and facility engineering that brings fermentation, downstream processing and clean utilities together in a hygienic, food-grade and cGMP-aligned environment.
What We Did
- Layout and zoning: architectural concepts and zoning separating raw materials, culture areas, downstream purification and packaging.
- Process flows and environment: personnel, equipment and waste flows to prevent cross-contamination, and the environmental conditions, pressure regimes and air classes for the process.
- Clean utilities: specifications for clean steam, oil-free compressed air, process cooling and biowaste inactivation.
- Hygienic design: hygienic engineering and food-safety requirements (HACCP, food cGMP) built into the base design.
Result
A scalable pilot plant design that reduced the capital risk and the technical risk of scale-up.
